Provision of data to NHSE supporting criteria-based approach to prescribing of cross sex hormones for transgender youth.

The request was successful.

Dr Mike Webberley

Dear Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, I refer to the policy https://www.england.nhs.uk/wp-content/up...

Paragraph 10:

10. Audit requirements.
'NHS England acknowledges the strength of views for an alternative, criteria-based approach and recognises that in some administrations, in some circumstances, cross sex hormones are prescribed to younger people. In response, NHS England requires standardised data collection, (inside and outside of a clinical trial), in order to continue to develop the evidence base in the context of an ethically approved study. This will include the feasibility and appropriateness of a criteria-based approach rather than an age basis approach. To facilitate this, providers will be required to submit data annually to NHS England and enter eligible patients into appropriate clinical trials.'

Gender Identity Services for Children and Adolescents in the UK are provided by the Gender Identity Development Service at Tavistock and Portman Trust

Since the publication of this policy in August 2016:
1. Please provide me with the requests by NHS England for such data.
2. Please provide me with the data provided.
3. Please provide details of clinical trials pertaining to this criteria-based approach.
4. Please provide the outcome of the review planned for 2019/2020 as per paragraph 12

Yours faithfully,

Dr Mike Webberley

Dr Mike Webberley

Dear Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, further to your response to my FOI point 2, may I remind you that it is a REQUIREMENT of the providers (Tavistock gender clinic, GIDS) 'to submit data ANNUALLY to NHS England and enter eligible patients into appropriate clinical trials'.
If as you say you 'do not hold data that falls within the criteria of my request', does this mean that no data has been submitted to NHSE?
Furthermore, you have not as yet provided a response to my FOI of 16th March where I asked the following;
following the restructuring of GIDS as a result of the CQC report and High Court Judgement;
what will be the future roles of the 2 clinical leads in GIDS, Dr Polly Carmichael and Professor Gary Butler?
What is the current and proposed clinical structure?
Will Professor Butler continue to lead the endocrine support
Will UCLH continue to provide endocrine support?
Who is to take over managerial responsibilities and in what form will this take?
Who will lead the clinical/endocrine support?
Who will lead the psychological/assessment support?
If the Clinical leadership is to change will it/has it been formally advertised?
Will Dr Cass have any influence on the proposed clinical structure?

Yours faithfully,

Dr Mike Webberley

Freedom of Information Requests, Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust

Dear Mike

We are sorry for the delay in responding to your follow up question.

We can confirm that no data has been submitted to NHSE/I on clinical
trials.  However, the Trust is required to submit data to the DHSC via the
NIHR CTP submission platform in respect of initiating clinical research
and delivering clinical trials.  This data is published at
[1]https://tavistockandportman.nhs.uk/resea...

We hope provides clarification.

Kind regards
