Provision of data by UCLH paediatric endocrinology to NHSE regarding criteria based approach v age for prescribing cross sex hormones to transgender youth.
Dear University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust,
I refer to the policy https://www.england.nhs.uk/wp-content/up...
Paragraph 10:
10. Audit requirements.
'NHS England acknowledges the strength of views for an alternative, criteria-based approach and recognises that in some administrations, in some circumstances, cross sex hormones are prescribed to younger people. In response, NHS England requires standardised data collection, (inside and outside of a clinical trial), in order to continue to develop the evidence base in the context of an ethically approved study. This will include the feasibility and appropriateness of a criteria-based approach rather than an age basis approach. To facilitate this, providers will be required to submit data annually to NHS England and enter eligible patients into appropriate clinical trials.'
Paediatric endocrinology services for Gender Identity Services for Children and Adolescents in the UK (GIDS) are provided by the University College London Hospital.
Since the publication of this policy in August 2016:
1. Please provide me with the requests by NHS England for such data.
2. Please provide me with the data provided.
3. Please provide details of clinical trials pertaining to this criteria-based approach.
4. Please provide the outcome of the review planned for 2019/2020 as per paragraph 12
Yours faithfully,
Dr Mike Webberley

Dear Cindy (UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON HOSPITALS NHS FOUNDATION TRUST), thank you for your response to my FOI however under point 2 you have stated N/A. May I remind you that irrespective of your response to point 1 NHSE have made it a requirement that the providers of adolescent transgender care at GIDS (UCLH endocrinology) will ‘submit data annually to NHS England and enter eligible patients into appropriate clinical trials.' As this service is funded and commissioned by NHSE specialised services, you are legally obliged to provide this information.
Thank you
Yours sincerely,

Dear University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust,
Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.
I am writing to request an internal review of University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust's handling of my FOI request 'Provision of data by UCLH paediatric endocrinology to NHSE regarding criteria based approach v age for prescribing cross sex hormones to transgender youth.'.
I have repeatedly asked for the data provided by UCLH to NHSE, regarding criteria-based approach v age for prescribing cross sex hormones to transgender youth and the Trust has repeatedly prevaricated. I have made the point that the data MUST be provided whether or not NHSE have requested it. It is a mandatory requirement of the Trust to provide this data to NHSE and forms the basis of the funding for the service. If there is none please state 'none'.
