Provision of Aires for Motor Homes / motor caravans

The request was successful.

Dear Isle of Anglesey County Council,
Does Anglesey Council have any plans for establishing MotorHome / Caper Van Aires on the island. ?
See enclosed info from CAMPRA regarding Pembroke Council and Cyngor Gwynedd.

Interest post from Pembrokeshire County Council 🤔
This from PCC https://www.facebook.com/127428295504/po...
I have sent them an email from CAMpRA, maybe others may want to thank them for welcoming motorcaravans and explain that we need Aires not campsites ✍️
“Good afternoon, it is great to see that Pembrokeshire welcome motorcaravans despite the opinion of the majority of our 400,000 UK registered motorcaravans is that we are not welcome in Pembrokeshire.
The problem appears to be the ongoing message to use a campsite !
This is not a problem but its the availability of campsites that cater for the modern touring motorcaravans.
The UK are the only countries in Europe that have failed to recognise the “year round” revenue generated by motorcaravans,
82% of UK motorcaravans tour all year round not just in the summer period.
This brings its only challenges in the UK and in Pembrokeshire as most of the campsite in the regional are seasonal (close for 6 months) or grass pitches unusable by a motorcaravan in wet weather.
CAMpRA the campaign for Real Aires in the UK (motorcaravan overnight stops - not campsites) are working with several councils including Gwynedd and Conwy, to advice them how to manage the increase in motorcaravan tourism.
We have heard the claims that it is a fad during covid but motorcaravan sales in the UK reached record levels last year and travel restrictions due to Brexit mean that every UK motorcaravan now spends a min of 6 months per year in the UK.
The value to local businesses is worth an estimated ÂŁ1 billion per year.
And an Aire differs from a campsite as it is a short stay (max 48 hours) overnight stop for self contained motorcaravans. These only need to top up with water and empty waste every 3 to 4 days.
CAMpRA are working towards the same aims as Pembrokeshire to ask motorcaravans to use official regulated sites, the only area where we differ is the concept of a motorcaravan Aire.
The UK now have 10 campsites with an Aire attached , 5 of those in Wales (2,600) in France.
We have our first campsite with a winter Aire, so when a site closes for winter , it operates as overnight parking with water and waste for self contained motorcaravans.
This extends the campsite season with no maintenance of toilets etc as there are closed, it extends the season for local businesses like restaurants etc as we tour out of season when the roads are quite.
All the CAMpRA ask is an opportunity to engage with the council to look at ways to provide official short stay overnight parking for self contained motorcaravans.
Our moto is “Leave no Trace”.
I hope that you will visit our website and check out the information on our business hub or better still join us on a zoom meeting đź‘Ť
The report produced by Gwynedd council with the assistance of CAMpRA is availability in our website library as is our briefing document explaining the benefits to “You” and the local business in Pembrokeshire.
Keep your businesses running all year round with a sustainable motorcaravan tourism policy.”

Yours faithfully,

G K Jones

Dear G K Jones,

Thank you for your enquiry with regards the provision of aires for
motorhomes / motor caravans on Anglesey.

Anglesey Council does not have any immediate plans to develop or operate
an aires type overnight parking facility at our sites.    However, as an
Authority we are looking at long term options and solutions, including
providing grey/black water waste disposal at 2 Local Authority public
conveniences when these are upgraded later this year for responsible
disposal of grey/black waste.

We would welcome further discussions with Campra on this and the best
approach going forward.

If you are dissatisfied with any aspect of this response to your request
for information, and / or the decision made to withhold information, you
may ask for an internal review.  Please address your correspondence to the
Customer Care Officer, Legal Services, Council Offices, Llangefni, Ynys
MĂ´n LL77 7TW (e-mail: [1][email address].cymru). The Council is not

Freedom of Information Act 2000. Your request for an internal review will
be considered in accordance with the Code and you will be informed of the
Council’s decision as soon as possible.

If you are not content with the outcome of any internal review you have
the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner, Wycliffe
House, Water Lane, Wilmslow SK9 5AF.  Please note that the Information
Commissioner is likely to expect internal review procedures to have been
exhausted before beginning his investigation
