Provision of Aires and Beach Road Bangor facility
Dear Gwynedd Council,
As per your Senior Officers reports regarding funding for some Aires in Gwynedd....as per following : -
Dafydd Williams, Head of Environment for Gwynedd Council, said: “Gwynedd Council has undertaken significant research into motor homes in the county and has listened to the views of communities, motor home owners and camp site operators in order to understand illegal or inappropriate overnight stays within the county.”
“Through the Brilliant Basics funded project we will pilot a network of up to 6 ‘Aros-fan’ sites across Gwynedd which will provide appropriate over-night provision for motor homes and campervans with their own on board facilities.”
Sioned Williams, Head of Economy and Community for Gwynedd Council, said: “In order to support the local economy, all 6 sites will be located within walking distance to key towns and destinations, will have basic services and will operate a strict 48 hour maximum stay.”
“Although these facilities will not be operational this summer, we hope that all relevant infrastructure will be in place by Spring 2023. If the pilot proves successful, the Council may consider the development of further Aros-fan facilities in the county in the future.”
Is there any compelling or irreversible reasoning why the Long Stay parking facilties in Beach Road Bangor - "each end of King George V playing field" have height barriers that prevent motor homes and camper vans parking there ?
Diolch
Yours faithfully,
G K Jones

Dear G K Jones,
Freedom of Information (ref 154)
Thank you for your recent request. Please see below for the information
requested:
Following ongoing problems with unauthorised occupants overstaying at
these particular car parks in the past, the Council commissioned the
fabrication and erection of height restriction barriers at the entrances
in order to prevent similar problems in the future. This course of action
was taken following numerous complaints both from residents and members of
the public and seen as the most effective measure for these locations.
The car parks in question are also within a flood zone, therefore are
unsuitable for the trialling of an ‘Aires’ facility.

Dear Rhyddid Gwybodaeth, I refer to your reasoning regarding the Armageddon Flood risk in Bangor and your actions to fit height barriers to prohibit day trippers in camper vans, tradesmen in vans and other drivers of vehicles above average height access to the car park. re : unsubstantiated complaints.
I notice that the proposed Aire for the Shell Site in Caernarfon is one of the areas for coastal flooding on the Natural Resources Wales information map.
Flooding on the proposed Aire sites in Pwllheli and Barmouth are also shown on the map, quite ironic when you say Bangor isn't considered suitable.
Will the annual fair in and other events on King George V field Beach Road Bangor be cancelled due to Cyngor G's tsunami expectancy fears ?
Diolch
Yours sincerely,
G K Jones
