Prosecutions from television detection equipment
Dear Sir or Madam,
Could you let me know the answers to the following four questions:
1. The number of prosecutions for not having a TV license, that have taken place in the last year, where evidence from a "detector van" or "handheld detector" was used and presented in the court.
2. Do the "detector vans" actually exist?
3. How many "detector vans" do TV Licensing use?
4. Do "detector vans" and "handheld detectors" detect only televisions or are they capable of detecting other equipment?
Yours faithfully,
Bruce Bolt

The BBC has subsequently provided a response to this question when pressed and asked to conduct an internal review: http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/ev...
They confirmed that "detection" evidence has NEVER been presented during the prosecution of an alleged licence fee evader.
