I require the total number of people successfully prosecuted for not completing their census forms for the past 50 years (5 censuses), stratified by census year (1951, 1961, etc.).

Dear Mr Killip

The numbers of successful prosecutions for refusal to complete census
questionnaires over the past 50 years is as follows:-

1951 57

1961 87

1971 424

1981 692

1991 342

2001 38

Each figure is published in the General Report for each respective Census.
The 2001 Census General Report is available on the website:

The number of people prosecuted for failing to complete a census
questionnaire in the 2001 Census was also published on the website in 2005
in the non-compliance evaluation report.
