Prorogation advice

Chris Cook made this Freedom of Information request to Cabinet Office

This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

The request was successful.

Dear Cabinet Office,

Please release to me all the legal advice received by the prime minister, his special advisers, Mark Sedwill and the Attorney General - including documents produced by members of that group - relating to:
a) the attempt to prorogue Parliament, and
b) the decision to contest the prorogation in courts in England and Scotland.

Given the stront public interest, it seems incontestable that the qualified exemptions will not hold in this case.

Yours faithfully,

Chris Cook

Dear Cabinet Office,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Cabinet Office's handling of my FOI request 'Prorogation advice'.

Obviously, the public interest is comically overwhelming.

The government was accused of having no rationale in court for the decision, there is a question about why the decision was taken forward, about whether the prime minister lied to the sovereign, to the court, about whether the Supreme Court over-reached...

I struggle to see how any institution could ever withhold it on a qualified exemption.. It's absolutely crackers.

Yours faithfully,

Chris Cook
