Mr Woods
Thank you for your request dated the 5th July 2009.
I apologise for the delay in our response, however while considering your request, it has been identified that with regard to Regulation 12(5)(e) (relating to confidentiality of commercial information) of the Environmental Information Regulations 2004, disclosure of the requested information could effectively disclose the value of the current contract with SITA at a time when the contract is currently being re-tendered.
In accordance with Regulation 7 of the Environmental Information Regulations, we require further time in order for us to fully consider the public interest test. Although this regulation allows for a further 20 working days, we will aim to respond to you as soon as possible and aim to do so within 10 working days.
Thank you for your patience in this matter.

Dear Andy Gee,
Thank you for your response to my FoI request. Whilst I understand the reasons for your reluctance to disclose the information I requested, please be assured I have no interest in the value of the current contract with SITA; in any event, I believe the latter is freely available on websites and in publications specialising in the waste management sector and was published there when the current contract was concluded.
My reason for seeking disclosure of the information was that my brown food waste recycling box was not emptied for one month while SITA's workforce was recently on strike. Via my council tax, I paid Bristol City Council for this service, which was not provided.
Yours sincerely,
Steve Woods
Further to your request for information under the Freedom of
Information, it is not possible to determine exactly the amount paid to
SITA specifically in respect of the weekly food waste collection service
provided for Bristol City Council. The best estimate that can be given
is contained in the information attached to this e-mail. I have given
the amount as a band D charge only for the financial year ending 31st
March 2009. The charges for bands A - H are in the public domain so you
should be able to work out what it is for other bands. The link to these
charges is
http://www.bristol.gov.uk/ccm/content/Ad...
This calculation has been prepared by Bristol Council and that SITA
disclaim responsibility for any inaccuracy
of the calculation.
This response should answer your request in full, however if you are
not satisfied with this response or wish to lodge an appeal against any
exemptions that may have been applied, you can do so by writing to the
Data Protection Officer at Bristol City Council Legal Services, The
Council House, College Green, Bristol, BS99 7PH or [Bristol City Council request email].
Details of the complaints procedure can be found at
http://www.bristol.gov.uk/complaints.
If, after you have exhausted the council’s complaints procedure, you
are still not satisfied with the response you have received you have the
right to complain to the Information Commissioner, details of your right
to complain can be found at http://www.ico.gov.uk/complaints.aspx
