Dear Joseph
Your information request (1643)
I am writing in response to your email to us of 6 July 2023 requesting
information relating to The Crown Estate’s London portfolio and the
managing agent JLL.
Although we had hoped to be able to respond to your requests by today, we
will need additional time to consider the balance of public interest.
Section 10(3) of the [1]Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) enables an
authority to extend the statutory 20 working day limit ‘until such time as
is reasonable in the circumstances’ in any case where it requires more
time to determine where the balance of the public interest lies
in relation to an exemption. In this case, the exemption under
consideration is section 31(1)(a) FOIA, relating to the prevention and
detection of crime, which we are considering in relation to security
matters.
We hope to be able to reach a final decision on your request by 5
September 2023 at the latest and will be in touch as soon as possible with
our decision.
Yours sincerely

Dear Aimee Gasston,
Thank you for your response. I just wanted to confirm that the answer to question 2A is in £, so for the year 18-19, that it is £1,761,927?
Thanks for laying out your reasoning behind exemptions for the public interest test. You state there is little public interest in understanding the buildings using security or cleaners but it is just to understand the numbers of properties owned by the Crown Estate that require that level of management. I believe 5a and 7a should therefore be able to be answered without compromising the security of the portfolio? This is because they cannot be used to identify even if the other questions fall more specifically into the reasoning you've outlined.
Thanks very much for the help
Yours sincerely,
Joseph Durbidge
Dear Joseph
Your information request (1643)
Thank you for your email of 7 September 2023.
In response to your questions, I can confirm that the monetary figures are
provided in pounds sterling.
In terms of your questions on the numbers of buildings at which cleaning
and security staff work, by way of explanation, we consider that providing
indicators of likely staff presence across our portfolio would constitute
a security risk, as it could assist someone with malicious intent in
working out potential vulnerabilities. For example, this information could
be helpful in assessing whether a building would be likely to be occupied
at a particular time and therefore easier to target.
If you would like us to process an internal review of the response we
provided to you, please let us know, and we will carry this out for you.
Yours sincerely
Aimee Gasston
