Progress reports from CNHC

The request was partially successful.

Dear Sir or Madam,

The Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CHNC) reports in its latest update (published 2 Nov 2009) that:

"Reports for July, August and September were sent to the Department of Health. The Executive Chair and Chief Executive are due to meet with Department of Health representatives on 26 October."

Given the public funding of the CNHC, and their current performance relative to their original business plan, I feel that it would be in the public interest for the Department of Health to make those reports available, along with any reports from the October 26 meeting.

Yours faithfully,

Sean Ellis

Dear Sean

I was interested to see your latest request for information about the CNHC

Having been unsuccessful with several previous requests, I recently tried again:

Here's luck to both of us.

Sincerely

Tony,

Before submitting this request, I did search for previous CNHC FOI requests, and noticed that your previous request went unanswered. I have higher hopes for this request since the reports are explicitly mentioned in the CNHC's latest update, so they should be quite recent (and hopefully therefore easily found).

On the other hand, Andy Lewis's request ("Progress Reports for the CNHC", 15 April 2009), after some back and forth, did result in some previous reports being published. It will be interesting to compare reported progress with projections.

Sean:

There is a note of desperation in the CNHC's and Mandate's attempts to persuade the DH that they are doing a great job.

I love the bit about the 1000th registrant being a significant landmark!

I look forward to your comments after you get the October report.

Tony

Good morning,
Having met with senior managers at the Care Quality Commission on Tuesday this week, for a 'Stakeholders' feedback meeting, it is clear that whilst CQC's role in regulation and enforcement appears to have been increased, their lack of inclusion in complaints will still impede on their ability to enforce anything!

Unless attention is drawn to serious system failures by Strategic Health Authorities (if SHAs are kept informed by Trusts) then CQC won't act it appears. There were 1200 'avoidable deaths' at Mid Staffs Foundation Hospital Trust and it appears there still are major problems there. But watch out in the case of hair removal and use of lasers, CQC have prosecuted in this case:
