Programming of British cinema in 2024
Dear British Film Institute,
Can you please tell me what proportion of the feature films/titles screened by the BFI Southbank in 2024 were of British origin (i.e. where the country has a UK credit)?
By this, I am referring to the screenings in the regular BFI Southbank programme, not those at BFI IMAX, or titles included in festivals such as the BFI London Film Festival or BFI Flare.
Could you supply the data from 1 January to 31 December 2024 with both the raw numbers (of titles) and percentages please? I would be grateful if you could provide a full list of all the titles screened in a spreadsheet, as with my previous request of the same nature. See https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/p....
Yours faithfully,
Mr T Morgan
Please be advised that the BFI Offices will now be closed until 10:00am on
Tuesday 2 January.
We will respond to your request upon our return.
Kind regards
BFI

Hi Sian,

Dear Theo,
Thank you for your Freedom of information request dated 1st January 2025.
I’ve spoken with the team who have previously provided this data and they have advised they don’t have the resources currently to provide a response by the deadline of 30th January.
This is because a key member of the small team is leaving (after some 45 years in post) so the team is rather stretched until a replacement has been fully trained.
They have committed to being able to provide this information by the end of February 2025 (if not sooner). They would also note that any data provided will be with the same accuracy caveats as previously cited.
We hope this is amenable to you and are sorry we’re not able to meet the deadline.
Regards,
Sian

Hi Sian,
Thank you for your response and the update. Yes, if the data cannot be provided sooner than that will be fine. I don’t have a deadline, but it would be nice to have the data at the earliest possible opportunity. I look forward to receiving an answer to this request when you are able to provide one.
Yours sincerely,
Mr T Morgan
Hi Theo,
Thanks so much for your understanding.
I have , of course, made clear to the team that if they can supplier earlier then that would be great.
I'll also set a calendar reminder for them in early to mid February so this doesn't slip further.
Regards,
Sian
Hi Sian,
Thanks, I look forward to hearing back about this in due course.
Yours sincerely,
Mr T Morgan
Dear Theo,
Thank you for your patience while my colleagues have looked at this.
Please find the relevant data they have been able to source attached.
This data is supplied with the same caveats as last time it was issued in that it is as accurate as it can be but may not be wholly 100% accurate due to how films are categorised in our databases.
Regards,
Sian
