Procedural efficacy

The request was successful.

Dear Pensions Ombudsman,

I notice in your annual report 2015/2016 you do not report complaints against the performance of TPO as an organisation.

Q Why do you not record such statistics in your Annual Reports?

Q Even though not reported in the Annual Report do you retain such statistics with their analyses and resolution ?

Q. Assuming you do over how many years have they been recorded?

Q. Can you supply a breakdown of this statistical information by year please?

Yours faithfully,

C.E.Bowerman

Dear Jordana Joshua,
Thank you for the response, may I further enquire

1.Was a managerial/policy decision taken not to include service Complaints in the Annual TPO Report, and if so, when and by which Departmental Head?
2. When is it intended to include Complaints within the TPO Annual Report?
3. Under what detailed headings and sub heading are Complaints broken down and compiled?
4. Is it the intention to provide a published procedure whereby in the event of an unresolved service Complaint the TPO and the Complainants can jointly approach the Parliamentary & Health Service Ombudsman for a resolution, and if not, why not?

Yours sincerely
C Bowerman

Adam Pokun, Pensions Ombudsman

Dear C Bowerman

Thank you for your further enquiry. In response to your questions:

1. There was no managerial/policy decision taken not to include Service Complaints in the TPO Annual report.
2. No decision has been made as to whether to include Service Complaints within the TPO Annual Report. We may consider this for future Annual Reports.
3. We do not have systematic headings under which complaints are broken down. The main types of complaints are in relation to delays, the process and the outcome.
4. No this is not the intention. It would be unusual for a Complainant and an organisation to jointly approach an Ombudsman, if the Complainant felt the organisation was at fault.

Yours sincerely

Adam Pokun
