Freedom of Information Act, Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh

Dear Gurpreet

I refer to your request for information received on 6 August 2018, which is being managed under the provisions of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (“the FOISA”). The University's response is as follows.

1. Could you please outline the measures you have in place to support students who seek help with problem gambling?

There are no support measures targeted specifically at students seeking assistance for problem gambling. However, students seeking help for problem gambling would be offered support through the University’s support services in the same way as for any other issue. More than 24% of all members of University staff have been trained in Scotland's Mental Health First Aid (SMHFA), which includes ‘Addiction’ as one of its sections. As such, these members of staff are well equipped to recognise potential issues and make a referral to internal or/and external support services.

2. Please specify the number of times the university has been contacted by students who seek support or advice for gambling in 2017-18 , 2016-17 , 2015-16, 2014-15,2013-14 (with an annual breakdown and gender breakdown of the pupil)

The University has not, and does not, collect information specifically in relation to students who seek support or advice for gambling. As such, notice is given under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 that the requested information is not held by the University.

Where any of the material supplied is under copyright you may not reproduce or alter the material without permission of the copyright holder.
