Dear applicant

Thank you for your information request dated the 6th August 2018 regarding
students with problem gambling.  Your request has been handled under our
own country’s legislation: the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

We should like to apologise for the late reply but we are experiencing
very high levels of requests and so we hope this has not inconvenienced
you.  I am afraid we do not  make a distinction within the addiction
issues category for summarising the presenting issues within the
counselling service statistics we report (please see attached for
information) and so this information is exempt from release under the
Section 17 of the Act.  Also our University does not differentiate by
gender presently but we are considering recording this at a high level in
future.

We have though been advised that anecdotally there may be fewer than 5
students per year who present with gambling as their main reason for
seeking support.  Support is provided as outlined on our student wellbeing
website.  Our counsellors would also refer patients to Gamblers Anonymous.

Once again, apologies for the delay and we hope this has not
inconvenienced you.
