Dear Gurpreet Narwan,

Thank you for your email dated 6^th August 2018 requesting information
about the University of Warwick. Your request is being considered under
the Freedom of Information Act 2000. Please find below your request and
our response.

Could you please outline the measures you have in place to support
students who seek help with problem gambling?

The University of Warwick’s Counselling Services Team offer a range of
counselling interventions available to all students who seek support with
any issue and they would refer students on to specialist services if
required.

An e-sheet available 24/7 on the University’s Counselling Services Team’s
website
[1]https://warwick.ac.uk/services/counselli...
which has links to a range of specific self-help websites and support
services re problem gambling.

The University of Warwick’s Residential Life Team would treat this as a
welfare issue and signpost those in need to the relevant support services.

Please specify the number of times the university has been contacted by
students who seek support or advice for gambling in 2017-18 , 2016-17 ,
2015-16, 2014-15,2013-14 (with an annual breakdown and gender breakdown of
the pupil)

In the years specified less than five instances of students seeking
support for Gambling issues have occurred.

Please note that where we have stated the value as ‘less than five’ we
decline to provide the actual figure on the grounds that the numbers are
very small and could potentially lead to the identification of
individuals, similarly we decline to provide any further details, which
may place the University in breach of the General Data Protection
Regulation 2016 and the Data Protection Act 2018. We are relying on the
exemption under section 40(2) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 in
this regard.

If you are unhappy with the way in which your request has been handled by
the University of Warwick, you can request an internal review and in the
first instance you are advised to follow the procedure outlined here:
