Dear Ms Narwan

I write in response to your request for information dated 6^th August 2018
received by the University and passed to me as the University’s Freedom of
Information Officer for action.

In answer to your questions:

Could you please outline the measures you have in place to support
students who seek help with problem gambling?

Although the counselling and mental health team provide counselling for
the emotional issues surrounding this and any other form of addiction, for
more specifically tailored help, they would signpost to more specialised
services such as Gamcare or Gamblers anonymous.

A range of the services offered by the team can be found on our web pages
by following the link below:

Please specify the number of times the university has been contacted by

This information is not recorded in a way that makes it accessible.

In both the University’s Mental health and Counselling teams, students
presenting with an addiction to gambling would be recorded alongside those
with other forms of addiction. In order to identify if the addiction is
related to gambling specifically each student file will need to be
reviewed. This exercise will take in excess of 2½ days and as such this
information is exempt under section 12 (would exceed the appropriate
limit) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 as set out in Statutory
Instrument 2004 NO 3244 “The Freedom of Information and Data Protection
(Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004”.

I hope the University has made its response in a clear and constructive
manner; however, if you consider the University has handled your request
unfairly you are entitled to follow the process set out in our standard
advice on the University's Freedom of Information Complaints Procedure
which is available online at:
