Prize breakdown of lotto

The request was successful.

Dear Gambling Commission,

Please can you advice whether the lottery should be including free lucky dips in the Prize fund in the prize breakdown on their website, as no money is paid out to the participants and so has no monetary value in this draw, it only provides a free ticket in another draw when claimed?

Can you also advise if the lottery is required to have a minimum Return To Player, if so how does a free lucky dip effect it?

Does camelot have data showing number of tickets bought each draw and prize fund breakdowns that it can provide?

Yours faithfully,
Paul

Freedom of Information, Gambling Commission

Dear Sir

Thank you for your request which has been processed under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Below are the questions you have raised followed by our response.

1.Please can you advice whether the lottery should be including free lucky dips in the Prize fund in the prize breakdown on their website, as no money is paid out to the participants and so has no monetary value in this draw, it only provides a free ticket in another draw when claimed?

Lucky dips constitute a ‘product as a prize tier’. A Lucky dip is a non-cash prize worth £2 and is counted as £2 sale when used. In the Lotto Online Game procedures lucky dip is shown in the prize category table and it is therefore appropriate to include lucky dips in the prize breakdown shown on Camelot’s website.

2.Can you also advise if the lottery is required to have a minimum Return To Player, if so how does a free lucky dip effect it?

The Lotto Online Game procedures sets out returns to players. 9.79% of sales, including Luck dip sales is allocated to the Jackpot prize and is share between winners. Other prizes, including Lucky dip, are fixed per winner subject to capping rules which are explained in the Online Game Procedure.

3.Does Camelot have data showing number of tickets bought each draw and prize fund breakdowns that it can provide?

The National Lottery website contains prize fund breakdowns for each draw over the past 180 days, however it does not contain data showing the number of tickets bought each draw.

Having completed a check of our records, I can confirm that the Commission does not hold information showing the number of tickets bought each draw therefore we are unable to help you with this part of your request.

The Commission is responsible for licensing and regulating the National Lottery, ensuring the interests of participants are protected and maximising returns for Good Causes. This information is processed by Camelot as the operator of the National Lottery but it is not information we are required to collect in support of our regulatory functions.
