Private v state school admissions (offers made)

We're waiting for elizabeth thomson to read recent responses and update the status.

elizabeth thomson

Good afternoon,

I am writing to request the following information under FOISA:

In each of the last six academic years, how many offers of a place to begin an undergraduate programme at your institution were made to:

1. rUK (England, Wales, NI) domiciled students? How many of these gained their entry qualifications at a private or fee paying school?

2. EU domiciled students? How many of these who gained their entry qualifications at a private or fee paying school?

3. Scottish domiciled students who gained their entry qualifications at a private or fee paying school? if any of these applicants were in the SIMD20 regarding deprivation, please state how many.

4. overseas domiciled students? How many of these gained their entry qualifications at a private or fee paying school?

I would prefer the information broken down by academic year.

If you require any clarification or further information please let me know asap.

Many thanks.

Yours faithfully,

elizabeth thomson

Dear Elizabeth

F (26/6) 020619-2 Private v State School Admissions (Offers made)
Please find in Blue below the University's response to your recent request
for information under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.
You will find that the University’s response to your information request
is in the form of a PDF (Portable Document Format) file or files attached
to this email. The PDF file format is used for electronic distribution
because it preserves the look and feel of the original document complete
with fonts, colours, images, and layout. To open a PDF file you can
download a free program called Adobe Acrobat Reader and install it onto
your computer by clicking on the following link:

Information Requested:

The University is able to advise you that some of the numbers involved are
five or fewer. This is because University does not disclose publicly
personal data, including not just names, but also other information which
identifies, or might lead, together with other information which is in the
public domain (or may otherwise be available) to the identification of
individuals, or to the disclosure of personal information about
individuals.

This is particularly the case where very low numbers are involved, and
accordingly other information may also have been withheld for this
reason.

Such information has been withheld under the exemption for personal data
in section 38(1)(b) of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.
Where very low numbers of staff or students are concerned, and the
institution itself is relatively small,  it is accordingly easier to
discover their identities.  The University needs to ensure that
identification of individuals, and the disclosure of their personal data,
is not thereby directly or indirectly revealed.

I trust that this provides the information you require, however, if you
are dissatisfied with the University’s handling of your request for
information under the Act, you have 40 days from the date of our response
to request a formal review of our decision.  However, you are encouraged
to contact me in the first instance, to determine if I can resolve your
concerns informally as this may lead to a quicker resolution of your
complaint than a formal appeal.

If you remain dissatisfied after contacting me, you may ask for an
Internal review of the University’s handling of your request. All
complaints regarding requests for information will be handled in
accordance with this procedure, and should be put in writing and sent to
the address below.

The request should:

(a) detail your request for a review of our decision to be undertaken;

(b) describe the nature of your original request; and

(c) explain the reasons why you are dissatisfied with our response.

Email [2][RGU request email].

If you remain dissatisfied with how your request for information has been
dealt with, you also have the right to apply to the Scottish Information
Commissioner for a decision as to whether we have handled your request
properly.

Information relating to your right to seek review is available from the
Scottish Information Commissioner's web page at:

[3]http://www.itspublicknowledge.info/faqs.... or by contacting the
Scottish Information Commissioner's Office at the following address:

Scottish Information Commissioner,

Fax: 01334 464611
E-mail: [4][email address]

This concludes the University’s response to your enquiry.
