Good afternoon,

I am writing to request the following information under FOISA:

In each of the last six academic years, how many applications to begin an undergraduate programme at your institution did you receive from:

1. rUK (England, Wales, NI) domiciled students? How many of these gained their entry qualifications at a private or fee paying school?

2. EU domiciled students? How many of these who gained their entry qualifications at a private or fee paying school?

3. Scottish domiciled students who gained their entry qualifications at a private or fee paying school? if any of these applicants were in the SIMD20 regarding deprivation, please state how many.

4. overseas domiciled students? How many of these gained their entry qualifications at a private or fee paying school?

If you require any clarification or further information please let me know asap.

Many thanks.

Yours faithfully,

Dear Elizabeth Thomson,

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST FOI 2019-190

I refer to your email of 2 June 2019 requesting information relating to Private and State School Admissions.

Your request has now been considered under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, ‘the Act’.

Our admissions system does not record if the previous institution of an applicant was a fee paying or private school. Please accept this message as notice under section 17(1)(b) that the information you have requested is not held by the University.

We do hold some information on previous institutions as provided on the UCAS definitions, but there is not an option for ‘fee paying’ or ‘private school’. Please let us know if you would like the information broken down using the UCAS definitions.

Should you be dissatisfied with this response, you have the right under the Act to request a review. A request for review must be made within 40 working days of the date of this reply. It must include your name and address for correspondence and specify the request for information and the grounds for dissatisfaction with the decision. Please send your request for review to our mailbox, [University of Aberdeen request email]. The University will respond to your request for a review within 20 working days of receipt of your request.

If you are unhappy with the outcome of the University’s internal review, you have the right to appeal to the Scottish Information Commissioner within six months of the date of receipt of the University’s review notice. Details on how to make an appeal to the Commissioner are available at www.itspublicknowledge.info/Appeal. Should you remain dissatisfied with the Commissioner’s decision, you have a right of appeal to the Court of Session on a point of law.

Yours sincerely,
