Private sector dischagres of homeless duties

The request was successful.

Dear Lewisham Borough Council,

I am writing a request further to my request of 23.04.23. You refused to answer lots of the questions, and you said this was because databases did not link together. However, you also seemed to believe the previous request related to the housing waiting list, which it did not do. Therefore, I have simplified the request to avoid confusion and problems with databases. I have done this as a new request as I felt it was simpler in this instance than using the internal review process.

This request is related to discharge of the main homeless duty through private sector offers under S193(7AA-AC) Housing Act 1996; no questions relate in anyway to the waiting list for social housing.

1) Please confirm how many people are currently owed the main homeless duty (under S193(2) Housing Act 1996)?

1b) How many of the households in answer to question 1, have been identified as being inappropriate for a private sector discharge in accordance with paragrpah 2.2 of the council's private rented sector policy?

Please provide the following for the last 12 months:

2) The number of main homeless duties that were accepted (under S193(2) Housing Act 1996) in the last 12 months?

3a) The number of private sector offers made under S193(7AA-AC) Housing Act 1996 in the last 12 months? [note: this question does not relate to the housing register, and is about mandatory offers of private housing to people with the main homeless duty]

3b) please provide a breakdown of answer 3a by the local auhtority area of the ofer (eg. 5 in Southwark, 7 in Lambeth etc.)

4a) The number of homeless duties discharged due to offers made under S193(7AA-AC) Housing Act 1996 in the last 12 months?
[Note: this answer could be different to 3a, as the council may make an offer, then decide not to discharge the duty eg. it is found to be unsuitable upon review]

4b) please provide a breakdown of answer 4a by the local auhtority area of the ofer (eg. 5 in Southwark, 7 in Lambeth etc.)

Yours faithfully,

Jo Staines
