Dear WARWICKSHIREICB (NHS ARDEN AND GREATER EAST MIDLANDS COMMISSIONING SUPPORT UNIT),
As I understand the referral process as confirmed by many of the other ICBs. It is as follows:
• GP refers patient to secondary care for assessment and if appropriate
treatment.
• Patient is sent patient choice letter – this must include 5 different
options of provider, although patient can request/opt for another
provider anywhere in England which is contracted to provide NHS
services. Patients are directed to the My Planned Care website for
information
• The patient then chooses where they want to be treated and referral is
sent to that provider.
• The provider treats the patient and then “invoices” the ICB for the
activity – all providers whether NHS trusts or independent providers
are paid the same tariff as published online.
This process means that you should be able to provide the analysis that I have asked for by use of the invoices you have received across the last 12 months or the last financial accounting period whichever is easiest.
Yours sincerely,
Ron Sheldrick
Good morning Ron Sheldrick

Good morning Ron Sheldrick
Further to the below the ICB has asked if you would provide some
clarification?
The original request sought eh % split of referrals. The ICB was unable
to provide that information and explained in detail why. The team
collating the information have advised that from the description provided
re the process, the information they can provide would relate to activity
data.
It would appear we have been communicating at cross purposes, I am sorry
for that.
Therefore please clarify:
1. Are you happy to receive activity data split by NHS and private
hospitals?
2. The time frame for that, for example the 2022/23 financial year.
Kind regards
Philip Humphreys
