Private Ambulances (PAS) in use over night

The request was partially successful.

Dear East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust,

Please advise as to how many Private ambulances are employed by the Trust throughout the night (after 0200) by: 1)specific day
2)locality
3)cost per shift charged by the PAS to the Trust
4)Justification for employing these PAS vehicles in localities over and above the scheduled requirement for transportable resources whereby roster redesign has reduced Trust full time staff/vehicles as it is deemed that there is not a perceived need for ambulance cover at these times.

Yours faithfully,

Gavin Webb.

Dear Gavin

Further to your email, and with our apologies for the delay, please find the Trust's response below. Unfortunately the very nature of your request meant that this was not a straightforward request and as such the Trust had to spend some time determining how best to extract and collate this information.

Following on from our investigations and due to the complexity of your request the Trust has calculated that this would take longer than eighteen hours to extract and collate the information you require and therefore would exceed the appropriate limit as defined by the Freedom of Information and Data Protection (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004 and as such we are unable to fully answer your request.

However we are able to supply you with the attached document which shows the private ambulance hours deployed after 02:00 in April and May.
Please note the following:
• Hours shown are the total being worked after 0200 on “night” shifts
• This includes both rapid response vehicles (RRVs) and Intermediate Tier Vehicles (ITVs)
• These resources and hours are generally used to backfill shortages in rota hours
• They are all unit hours (so one hour of a vehicle deployed)

I am obliged to advise you that if you are dissatisfied with the Trust’s response to your request you have a right to complain to the Trust and should set out your concerns to the Freedom of Information Officer, EEAST, Hospital Approach, Broomfield, Chelmsford, Essex, CM1 7WS or by email to [East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust request email]. If you remain dissatisfied following this, you have a right under Section 50 of the FOIA to seek a determination from the Information Commissioner on whether the Act has been properly applied by the Trust. For more information, please see www.ico.gov.uk.

The Trust is always looking at ways to improve our responses to Freedom of Information requests. If you wish to provide feedback to the Trust on how we have dealt with your request, please follow this link to complete a short survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PLJZ6C9

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further information.

Kind regards
