Sabine K McNeill

Dear Her Majesty’s Courts and the Tribunals Service,

Do you know how many parents who received 'gagging orders' were sentenced to prison for violating them during the past five years or so?

Today's article in the Daily Mail [http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-... mentions 200 per year. Is that correct?

Yours faithfully,

Sabine K McNeill

'Gagging orders' are "injunction orders" or "reporting restriction orders". The Independent published "The Untold Story of Gagging Orders" in March 2012 on http://www.independent.co.uk/news/media/... 69 referred to celebrities and 264 to children and young adults.

Dear Sabine,

Thank you for your e-mail below. I would be grateful if you would confirm exactly what information you are requesting:

Are you asking for:

A) The number of parents who received gagging orders who were sentenced to prison

OR

B) If the figure of 200 cited in the daily mail is correct.

If A, can you identify what gagging orders you are referring to.

Grateful if you would clarify and we will be able to process your query.

Thanks
Kate

Dear Data Access & Compliance Unit,

MANY THANKS for this request for clarification!

'Gagging orders' are either 'injunctions' or 'reporting restrictions'.

Hence I'd like to know:

1) how many parents received either of these?

2) how many parents were imprisoned for violating either of these?

With many thanks in advance,

Yours sincerely,

Sabine K McNeill

Dear Data Access & Compliance Unit,

"The untold story of gagging orders" was published by The Independent on http://ind.pn/ienuZ0

I am interested in gagging orders re 'child snatching' or the secrecy of family courts. See http://bit.ly/HqIgUk

Hoping that this is sufficiently clear, I look forward to hearing from you again.

Yours sincerely,

Sabine K McNeill

Dear Kathleen Malvo,

No, no: secrecy in family courts is a general principle. Injunctions, super-injunctions or reporting restriction orders are very specific documents issued by 'somebody in authority' and addressed to a certain person or persons.

That's what I mean when I ask for numbers:

1) of such orders

2) of people who have been imprisoned by the family courts

It was my assumption that people are sent to prison by family courts for violating such orders.

If, however, there are other reasons, I would gladly accept simply the number of people sent to prison by family courts.

Hoping that this is clear now,

Yours sincerely,

Sabine K McNeill

Dear Jackie Downer,

Many thanks for your 'not held' information.

Would you be kind enough to let me know where The Independent would have got its statistics from?

They published on 25th Mary 2011: The untold story of gagging orders on http://ind.pn/ienuZ0 saying that 69 referred to celebrities and 264 to children and young adults.

With many thanks in advance,

Yours sincerely,

Sabine K McNeill
