Dear Ministry of Justice,

According to announcements made by the Chancellor (in 2015) and more recently confirmed by Liz Truss (Justice Secretary), a number of prisons in England and Wales are due to be closed. In evidence to the Justice Committee, Liz Truss has announced that five new prisons are to be built by 2020.

Please could you provide:

1. Details of prison sites currently under consideration for closure and sale.
2. Details of existing prison sites under consideration for expansion.
3. Details of locations where new prisons are planned for development.

Finally, please could you confirm, in the case of HMP Holloway, who will take the final decision on the sale of the site - and whether this sits with the Ministry of Justice or another agency.

Yours faithfully,

Rebecca Roberts

Dear Ministry of Justice,

Dear Ministry of Justice,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Ministry of Justice's handling of my FOI request 'Prison closures'.

My request was entirely refused. However, I would like you to review whether this part of my request whether this falls under the exemptions. It is an urgent matter of interest for it to be clear who takes the decision on the sale of what is a large area of public land:

"Finally, please could you confirm, in the case of HMP Holloway, who will take the final decision on the sale of the site - and whether this sits with the Ministry of Justice or another agency."
