Dear Mr Richardson,

Thank you for your email of 11 July 2009 seeking information in relation
to the purchase of printer credit at the University. As you will have
noted from my automated out-of-office email response, your request arrived
while I was on leave from the University. This response directed
applicants to resubmit their requests to my colleague or to the relevant
university department. I have not been able to establish locally that your
request was resubmitted. Could I confirm this with you? If not resubmitted
but you would still like me to take it forward (in which case it would be
classed as being received from the date of your confirmation), do please
let me know and I will process it accordingly.

I look forward to hearing from you. With best wishes,

Yours sincerely,

Charles Fonge

Dear Mr Fonge,

Thank you for your reply of 23rd July. I did receive an out of
office email from yourself, and whilst it contained information of
who to contact, this information does not appear on your response,
it just read "email" with no further options. It just links to
another page on www.whatdotheyknow.com. Could you please proceed
with it, with the date from today, 23rd July 2009.

Many thanks,

Yours sincerely,

Adam Richardson

19 August 2009

Dear Mr Richardson,

Further to your Freedom of Information request of 23 July 2009 concerning
printer credits, I am pleased to provide the following information.

1. Total amount received for academic years 2006/7, 2007/8 and 2008/9.

These figures represent takings, rather than the purchase of distinct
credits.

Computing Service
2006/7: £64,353
2007/8: £69,376
2008/9: £81,564 (figure as at 28 July, calculated before financial year end)

Biology
2006/7: £4,300
2007/8: £3,500
2008/9: £3,000

Computer Science
Oct 2006 - Jul 2007: £2262.55
Sept 2007 - Jun 2008: £2213.71
Nov 2008 - Jul 2009: £2261.08

2. Number of printer credits purchased

The University does not hold this information as it does not use distinct
‘printer credits’: users instead being able to add money to an account from
which variable printing costs are deducted as they are incurred. Credit
systems may also not differentiate between the credit ‘purchased’ by
students or that allocated to classes, refunds etc. The total number of
pages printed has therefore been provided where possible and further
contextual information on the purchase of printing credit given in the links
below.

Computing Service*
2006/7 black/white, 1240629 pages; colour, 13928 pages
2007/8 black/white, 1405207 pages; colour, 16393 pages
2008/9 black/white, 1653174 pages; colour, 25169 pages

* Statistics for Computing Service classroom printers (based on period 1
August - 31 July).

Biology
2006/7 91,620 pages
2007/8 84,650 pages
2008/9 106,273 pages
