Prevention of fraudulent invoices

The request was successful.

Dear Bury Metropolitan Borough Council,

I am making a request under the FOI Act.

What steps do you employ to prevent the payment of fraudulent invoices that have been raised in the name of existing suppliers (i.e. where a fraudster raises an invoice in the name of a company that is already a supplier but with the fraudster’s own bank details)?

I await your response within 20 working days.

Yours faithfully,

Helen McNally

Baldwin, Andrew, Bury Metropolitan Borough Council

Dear Ms McNally

Thank you for your recent request for information.

If a supplier has changed bank details & not previously notified us we
would be advised by BACS when the payment was made, either being given the
correct bank details to update in our system and by rejection of the BACS
payment at which time we would contact the supplier.

In instances where a supplier notifies us of a change of bank details we
will verify this with them before making the change.

Regards
