Dear Tower Hamlets Borough Council,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Tower Hamlets Borough Council's handling of my FOI request 'Prevent delivery plan'.

Thank you for releasing the Prevent delivery plans. A portion of this FOI request was withheld, which concerned the funding of Prevent projects: I requested 'A list of funded organisations or projects, and the funding amount given, from 2011 to present.'

This was withheld under section 24(1) and 31(1)(a) of the Freedom of Information Act, with the reasoning that it would negatively impact Prevent activities.

A previous request numbered 3034, of May 2010, saw this information released in full.

Many of the programmes that are funded by Prevent are public in their acknowledgement of their receiving that funding. Many of those projects funded are also not of a sensitive nature. Prevent does not deal with criminal cases, and so releasing this information would not impede any national security investigations or operations. Recent research has also found that most persons are now supportive of Prevent as a safeguarding policy, and the recent acceptance of a public review has found that those who are suspicious of Prevent are so because of a lack of transparency.

I believe that for these reasons that this information should be released. However, should some funded projects be deemed so sensitive that they need to be withheld, I would accept that the name of the project and the organisation funded be redacted, and a description be provided as per the previous FOI request (3034).

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/p...

Yours faithfully,

Sam Andrews
