Prestel presence 1980s

Brent Borough Council did not have the information requested.

Dear Brent Borough Council,

Back in the 1980s, you had an on-line presence on the BT “Prestel” viewdata service, available under node 42035 according to the Prestel Directory October 1983.

I am requesting any surviving documentation and data relating to this project, with emphasis on the pages as published on Prestel. If these are available in their original digital form, perhaps for instance in the form of a back-up tape or disc from the system that was used to create them, or as a surviving tape as may have been sent to BT for upload to the system, then a copy of these would be especially welcome.

Should there be any issues relating to the cost or time taken to fulfilling this request, then please consider my request to be limited to digital form of the published pages.

Thank you for your attention.

Yours faithfully,

Rob O'Donnell

Dear Brent Borough Council,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Brent Borough Council's handling of my FOI request 'Prestel presence 1980s'.

A gap of only 36 minutes between my receiving your acknowledgement of my request and your denial of having any records seems rather fast when it would involve determining the existence of records 25+ years old, many of which may only exist on paper. Can you explain the basis on which you were able to categorically deny their existence?

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address:

Rob O'Donnell

Dear Stephen F Williams,

It is now over four months since I requested an internal review. Substantially longer than the 20 working days indicated and held to be reasonable by the Information Commissioners' Office.

Can you please advise the outcome of this ASAP?

Yours sincerely,

Rob O'Donnell

Dear Mr O'Donnell,

I have conducted an Internal Review of the council's handling of your request. Having checked with the relevant officers in the council, I am satisfied that no recorded information is held relating to your request. The reason why the response was dealt with within the short time frame was that the freedom of information officer was able to get an immediate response from the council officer responsible for the area concerned.
