The Local Planning Authority does not believe that the original façade contained black slate. The exposure of the cladding materials on the ground floor columns and the fascia did reveal some areas of black marble, however, we don’t think that this is original as the ground floor columns themselves are not actually original. As per the approved drawings the fascia and the ground floor columns are being clad in stone panels. This should achieve a consistent appearance which would link the ground floor stone clad elements with the original stone façade above and also link with the elements of the new build which are being clad in the same stone material as the fascia and the columns. The original façade above will be cleaned and the spandrels will be coloured bronze to match the frames.
