Our Ref. FR07486

Dear John Anthony

Thank you for your email of 5 April 2022, in which you ask for information
in relation to paramedic prescribers.

Your request has been handled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000
(FOIA).

The Health Education England's (HEE) recommendation around the level
paramedics operate at are, HEE’s own recommendations and these are not the
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) requirements. The level at
which a paramedic operates at will depend on various factors including the
employer’s requirements and this may differ from one employer to another.
Therefore, if the employer considers this HEE recommendation to be
appropriate for their paramedic’s requirements to fulfil then they would
be expected to take reasonable steps that their employees are fulfilling
their requirements.

Please also note, the HCPC regulates registrants in the four UK countries,
whereas HEE’s recommendations apply solely to those in England.
