Premium appointments

The request was successful.

Dear UK Border Agency,

I write to ask for clarification on the way in which the online appointment booking system for premium same day appointments works and how appointments are released.
The system I refer to can be accessed through the UKBA website, through contact – applying in person.

I would like to request answers to the following questions:

Are appointments released consistently at the same times? If so, what times and on what days are new appointments released?

Is it the case that appointment 'slots' can be used for any application type, or does the UKBA release appointment 'slots' that are specific to a particular type of application, or group of types of application?

Are appointment 'slots' always released an exact number of days prior to the date of the 'slot'? If so, please specify the number.
If not, please specify the shortest duration between release and 'slot' and the longest duration between release and 'slot' occurring in the last three months, as well as the UKBA's 'target' duration between release and 'slot'.

In the last 6 months, what percentage of applications, submitted in person at Croydon PEO, have been refused?
If possible, please outline what percentage of Tier 1 (General) extensions submitted in person in the last six months at Croydon PEO have been refused?
If possible, please outline what percentage of ILRs submitted in person at Croydon PEO in the last six months have been refused?

In the last six months, what percentage of applications, submitted in person at Croydon PEO, are rejected?
If possible, please outline what percentage of Tier 1 (General) extensions submitted in person in the last six months at Croydon PEO have been rejected?
If possible, please outline what percentage of ILRs submitted in person at Croydon PEO in the last six months have been rejected?

How many appointments, on average, will be available each day at Croydon PEO from 29th February 2012 onwards?

I look forward to your prompt reply.

Yours faithfully,

Sam Turner

Dear Peter Edwards,

Thank you for your prompt response to my request.

I will answer your questions in turn:

In each case where ‘in the last six months’ is stated in my original request, please take this as meaning from 1st August 2011 to 31st January 2012.

When no specific application type is mentioned, I would like the details in general, taking into account all application types, e.g. ‘In the last six months, what percentage of applications submitted in person at Croydon PEO have been rejected’ would refer to all applications submitted, of any type.

Yours sincerely,

Sam Turner

Dear Freedom Of Information Team ( IND ),

Thank you for your response. Please find my clarification below. I would ask that I receive a prompt and full answer in reply, as this is the second time I have been asked to provide clarification, which has caused significant delay to my Freedom of Information request.

When the phrase ‘at the same times’ is used, I would like you to confirm whether appointments are routinely or repeatedly released at a particular time on a particular day. For example, if appointments are consistently released at midnight on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, or at 9am each day, I would like to be informed of this.

Looking forward to a prompt answer.

Yours sincerely,

Sam Turner

Following the information in the last UKBA reply, I've checked for appointments between 0:00 and 1:00, and managed to book one in Croydon at about 0:40. It was the only available slot at the time. The appointment was 7 days from the time of booking.

This correspondence was extremely helpful. I couldn't have booked an appointment without it!

Sam Turner: Thank you very much for the patience!

Do we know if the information with regards to the time of release of appointments is specific to the Croydon PEO?

A number of annotations offering people appointments in exchange for money have been removed.
