Dear Mr Bailey-Lee,

Freedom of Information Act 2000 - Request for Information

I am writing in respect of your recent enquiry for information held by the
Authority under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act.

Please find the response to your request below.

The number of premises that have stopped trading due to coronavirus.

Businesses which have ceased trading, either temporarily or permanently,
but who remain in occupation of non-domestic property remain liable for
occupied Business Rates, and are shown as such on the Council’s records.

A list of all the non-domestic properties in the Wakefield Council area is
published on the Data Mill North website at: [1]Business rates - Data Mill
North and this shows the occupied/unoccupied status.

The Council does not collect and record the reasons why someone vacates a
commercial property.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any further queries
regarding this matter.

Yours sincerely
