Premises License Registers
Dear Gambling Commission,
I am writing to request by FOI all historical Premises License Registers which you hold (2013 onwards).
On the website, only the previous month's information is available : http://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/doc...
I would be very grateful if you could provide me the previous files since 2013. If it is a live system, i would greatly appreciate if you could provide me with at-least one snapshot for each year.
Thanks a lot !!!
Yours faithfully,
Chandra Singh

Dear Freedom of Information,
Thank you for providing the data. I downloaded the data and had a chance to review. Upon closer look, i want to ask a few questions to understand the data clearly:
1. The variable "License Status" has four values: Active, Application, Grant, Variation. Can you please define what each of these imply?
2. What does the "Status Date" variable mean? This variable "Status Date" is often empty. What does that mean?
3. If a gambling shop is closed from one month to the next, will it be removed from the next month's register?
4. How can I identify a new gambling shop in the data?
Many thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.
Yours sincerely,
Chandra Singh

Dear Sir/Madam
Thank you for your request which has been processed under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).
Please find the Gambling Commission responses to your enquiries below:
1. The variable "License Status" has four values: Active, Application, Grant, Variation. Can you please define what each of these imply?
Active - Licence has been issued
Application - Application for a new licence is being processed
Grant - Licence has been granted but not yet issued
Variation - Application for a change to the licence is being processed
2. What does the "Status Date" variable mean? This variable "Status Date" is often empty. What does that mean?
The status date is when a change was last made to the premises, for example, it was varied or granted. This is only updated when there is a change so if there has never been a change from first status then there won't be a date.
3. If a gambling shop is closed from one month to the next, will it be removed from the next month's register?
When we are notified that a premises is closed, the premises will not show on the register from the next day.
If we are notified of the same premises opening again, then again, it will be the next day.
The register updates every day at 4am.
4. How can I identify a new gambling shop in the data?
We only hold information about when we are notified of premises changes or variations as premises licensing is done by local Licensing Authorities. For accurate premises information, you should contact the relevant Local Authority, as they maintain an accurate and up-to-date register for their local area.
Kind regards
