This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England,

I would like to make a request under the freedom of information act for all internal communication including but not limited to documents and emails, which discusses or presents English Heritage preferences and planning in relation to any future tunnel for the A303 in the neighbourhood of Stonehenge. In particular I am seeking clarification as to the most likely tunnel option English Heritage have a preference for and documentation supporting that decision.

Kind Regards

Jamie Stone

Dear Mr Stone,

Re: Environmental Information Request – Preferences for an A303 tunnel
past/under Stonehenge

Thank you for your email on 25 February. In your email you have requested
the following:

a) All internal communications including but not limited to documents and
emails, which discuss or present English Heritage's preferences and
planning in relation to any future tunnel for the A303 in the
neighbourhood of Stonehenge.

b) Clarification as to the most likely tunnel option English Heritage have
a preference for and documentation supporting that decision.

Having looked into your request we will require a date range for the
information that you are seeking, i.e. 1 January 2013 to the present day.
As you may be aware the consideration of an A303 tunnel began in 2000 and
was concluded in 2007/8 following a public enquiry in 2004/2005. English
Heritage's responses to these proposals are publically available through
the Local Planning Authority, as are the public enquiry documents. I
attach the Planning Inspectorate's report for information.

Once we receive clarification of your request in the form of a date range,
your request will be considered under either the Freedom of Information
Act (2000) or the Environmental Information Regulations (2004). I will be
unable to process your request further until I hear from you.

Yours sincerely,

Jennifer Pearson

Dear Pearson, Jennifer,

The date range I am looking for would probably be from 1st January 2013 to the present day.

To clarify I am aware that a tunnel of some kind is still considered desirable as on 11 December 2013, Simon Thurley was quoted as saying English Heritage will continue to argue for the tunnel “with all our strength” and I would like to know which tunnel that refers to, plus any documents to support that decision etc.

(Simon Thurley quote from here: http://www.theartnewspaper.com/articles/...)

Yours sincerely,

Jamie Stone

Dear Bryan, Ann,

Dear Mr Stone,

Information Request - Preferences for an A303 Tunnel - Stonehenge

I am writing in connection with your recent request for information
concerning the above.

While I can confirm that English Heritage holds information that falls
within the scope of your request it has unfortunately become apparent that
I will not be able to provide you with a response by the current deadline.

Your request is being considered under the Environmental Information
Regulations 2004 (‘the EIR’).  Regulation 7(1) of the EIR allows
organisations to extend the deadline for replying to complex/voluminous
requests by an additional 20 working days. I am currently in the process
of considering the information held by English Heritage which is relevant
to your request and, owing to the volume of information held and the
complexity of the case, estimate that I need to extend the deadline to 11
April.

I am sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause you. I will, of
course, provide you with a response as soon as I am able to.

Yours sincerely,

Jenny Pearson
