Dear Kent County Council,

Please could you provide me with precise geographical coordinates - in either latitude/longitude format or easting/northing format - of the locations of primary schools in Kent as used by your GIS department in calculations under the nearness criterion for primary admissions? I would like, if possible, the name and URN (or the DfE number) of the school along with its location.

I am asking for this in order to supplement a website I have created for parents in Kent to help them find out more about primary schools near them. You can see it here:
http://admissionsday.co.uk

In order to position the schools on the map, I am using the location data supplied by the Department for Education. However, some of it is clearly wrong. For example, St Johns in Tunbridge Wells is actually further south than where the marker is positioned on this map:
http://admissionsday.co.uk/#st-john%27s-....

Your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Yours faithfully,

Mike Thompson

Dear Mr Thompson

Thank you for your request for information made under the Freedom of
Information Act (FOIA) 2000, relating to the locations of primary schools
in Kent.

I am pleased to provide the attached information in answer to your
request.

The Eastings and Northings supplied are in a 7-digit format. Eastchurch
Primary School operates on two sites on the Isle of Sheppey, so its
admissions point is equidistant between the two locations.

If you are unhappy with this response, and believe KCC has not complied
with legislation, please ask for a review by following our complaints
process; details can be found at this link
[1]http://www.kent.gov.uk/about-the-council...
on our website. Please quote reference FOI/14/2188.

If you still remain dissatisfied following an internal review, you can
appeal to the Information Commissioner, who oversees compliance with the
Freedom of Information Act 2000. Details of what you need to do, should
you wish to pursue this course of action, are available from the
Information Commissioner’s website [2]http://www.ico.org.uk/concerns.

Yours sincerely
