Pre-release date for data relating to academy transfers and free school impact assessments

J Downs made this Freedom of Information request to Department for Education

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was partially successful.

Dear Department for Education

The UK Statistics Authority has issued a new Code of Practice for Statistics. One of its stipulations is that 'The release of both regular and ad hoc official statistics should be pre-announced through a 12-month release calendar, giving a specific release date at least four weeks in advance where practicable.'

I have checked the statistics release calendar for the Department for Education and can find no reference to the release of statistics relating to:

1 The names of academies which will have changed hands in the financial year 2017/18, their predecessor trusts, new trusts and any cost of transfer.

2 Impact assessments for free schools opening in 2016 and 2017.

I have previously been told that these statistics are being prepared and will be published in due course. However, 'in due course' is too vague. I should be grateful if you could include the release dates in your 12-month release calendar as required by the new Code of Practice.

Yours faithfully,

J Downs

Dear Ms Downs

Thank you for your request for information, which was received on 24
February 2018. You requested:

The UK Statistics Authority has issued a new Code of Practice for
Statistics.  One of its stipulations is that 'The release of both regular
and ad hoc official statistics should be pre-announced through a 12-month
release calendar, giving a specific release date at least four weeks in
advance where practicable.'

I have checked the statistics release calendar for the Department for
Education and can find no reference to the release of statistics relating
to:())

1  The names of academies which will have changed hands in the financial
year 2017/18, their predecessor trusts, new trusts and any cost of
transfer.

2  Impact assessments for free schools opening in 2016 and 2017.

I have previously been told that these statistics are being prepared and
will be published in due course.  However, 'in due course' is too vague.
I should be grateful if you could include the release dates in your
12-month release calendar as required by the new Code of Practice.

I have dealt with your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000
(“the Act”).

Firstly, I would like to apologise for the delay in responding. However, I
can now confirm that the publication on academy transfers and funding will
be published in July and is listed on the release calendar. In accordance
with the Code of Practice for Official Statistics a specific publication
date will be provided at least 4 weeks prior to publication. You will be
able to find details on the publication date for this report here:

Publication of free schools impact assessments are not covered by the Code
of Practice for Statistics, therefore no pre-announcement is required.

Department, you may then contact the Information Commissioner’s Office.
