Potholes and road defects
Good afternoon,
I would like to request the following information under the Freedom of Information act:
1. The total number of potholes and/or road defects reported in your local area, broken down by month for the years 2019, 2020 and 2021 to date.
2. The total number of potholes and/or road defects fixed by the council, broken down by month for the years 2019, 2020 and 2021 to date.
3. The amount of money spent by the council on fixing potholes and/or road defects broken down by year, for 2019, 2020 and 2021 (calendar years if possible, please).
4. The total amount of money paid out in compensation due to potholes and/or road defects, broken down by year for 2019, 2020, 2021 (calendar years if possible, please).
5. And if possible, please can you give an indication of the amount of time taken to fix a single pothole (from starting work on the fix to the road being open again)?
If limited by time, please prioritise in order of Q1, Q2, Q3, etc.
If possible, please provide data in an Excel format.

I can confirm that Brent Council holds the information you have
requested.
1.The total number of potholes and/or road defects reported in your local
area, broken down by month for the years 2019, 2020 and 2021 to date.
We are unable to break this down by month but please see below yearly
figures:
(i) 19/20 – 1989
(ii) 20/21 – 1256
(iii) 21/22 (to 31^st August) - 741
2. The total number of potholes and/or road defects fixed by the council,
broken down by month for the years 2019, 2020 and 2021 to date.
We are unable to break this down by month but please see below yearly
figures:
· 2019/20 - 27,733
(i) 1,646 through our reactive maintenance programme.
(ii) 26,087 via Injection Patching programme.
· 2020/21 – 10,284
(i) 1,295 through our reactive maintenance programme.
(ii) 8,989 via Injection Patching programme.
· 2021/22 (to August 31st) – 649
3. The amount of money spent by the council on fixing potholes and/or road
defects broken down by year, for 2019, 2020 and 2021 (calendar years if
possible, please).
We are unable to break this down by month but please see below yearly
figures:
· 18/19 - £359,862.30 (£209,862.30 on reactive carriageway repairs,
£50,000 on carriageway Injection Patching & £100,000 on winter resilience
carriageway patching).
· 19/20 - £824,336.24 (£124,336.24 on reactive carriageway
repairs,, £450,000 on carriageway Injection Patching & £250,000 on winter
resilience carriageway patching).
· 20/21 - £701,401.40 (£146,152.51 on reactive carriageway repairs,
£431,348.89 on carriageway Injection Patching & £123,900 on winter
resilience carriageway patching).
· 21/22 ( up to August 21) - £66,666.55
4. The total amount of money paid out in compensation due to potholes
and/or road defects, broken down by year for 2019, 2020, 2021 (calendar
years if possible, please).
2019 – 65,728.89
2020 – 17,959
2021 – 22,103.75
5. And if possible, please can you give an indication of the amount of
time taken to fix a single pothole (from starting work on the fix to the
road being open again)?
We do not hold this information, as this is not recorded, and also repair
time will vary depending on the size of the pothole.
