3. The amount of money spent by the council on fixing potholes and/or
road defects broken down by year, for 2019, 2020 and 2021 (calendar
years if possible, please).
Unfortunately, the information regarding spend is only available for
financial years rather than calendar years, this information also covers
all defects and not just pot holes.
2019 - 20 £2,810,720
2020 - 21 £2,632,524
2021 - £1,242,324 (spend to date)
4. The total amount of money paid out in compensation due to potholes
and/or road defects, broken down by year for 2019, 2020, 2021
(calendar years if possible, please).
2019 - £115,441
2020 - £225,244
2021 - £73,158
Please note that this data relates to claims settled in the years, but the
incident itself may have occurred in a different year.
The information relates to road (carriageway) defects only.
5. And if possible, please can you give an indication of the amount
of time taken to fix a single pothole (from starting work on the fix to
the road being open again)?
The average time taken to repair a single pothole is 20 – 30 minutes, this
will very much depend on the size, location and traffic managements
requirements for each location

Good afternoon,
Thank you for this information.
Please can you confirm how I would obtain the total number of potholes reported in your area, would this be all four columns added together, or should I be using one column in particular?
Many thanks,
Chloe
Re: 18724 EIR
Dear Ms Ostrolenk
Please accept my apologies for any confusion caused in our response to
your EIR. I hope this explanation makes it clearer.
I have changed some of the headings on one table which I hope will clarify
the situation. Using 2019 as an example:
1 - All Safety Defects County (excluding Oxford City) – these are all
safety defects which were identified by our inspectors outside of the
Oxford City Boundary
2 - All Safety Defects Oxford City – these are all safety defects which
were identified by our inspectors within of the Oxford City Boundary
3 - Total Safety Defects for Oxfordshire – is the total of Safety defects
in total across City and County roads (where we hold the information) so
it is column 1 + column 2 shows the total number of All Safety Defects per
month in 2019 and displayed in red.
Out of these safety defects the majority of those we identify to be fixed
are potholes.
4 - Potholes County (excluding Oxford City) these are all potholes which
were identified by our inspectors outside of the Oxford City Boundary
5 - Potholes Oxford City - these are all potholes which were identified by
our inspectors within of the Oxford City Boundary
6 - Total Potholes for Oxfordshire - is the total of potholes in total
across City and County roads (where we hold the information) so it is
column 4 + column 5 shows the total number potholes per month in and
displayed in green
1 - All 2 - All 4
Safety Safety 3 - Total -Potholes 5 6 - Total
