working days, that is by or on 26 February 2018.

If for any reason the Council needs to extend this timescale you will be

Dear Ms Harban

I refer to your request dated 29 January 2018,  which has been dealt with
under the Freedom of Information Act

You request related to Pothole statistics for West Sussex.

We have now completed a search for the information which you requested and
confirm that this Authority holds some data relevant to your request.

I am now able to respond to you with the following:

Please find attached the following:

 1. Number of reported potholes in 2017.

In the calendar year 2017 our system recorded a total of 7295 publically
reported potholes. 313 were reported as emergencies, 4 were recorded on
bridges or structures, 35 were recorded as being on the footway and 6943
were recorded as carriageway potholes.

 2. Number of fixed potholes that were reported in 2017.

Balfour Beatty completed at least 17093 works instructions relating to
potholes, the identification of which would be from either our routine
inspections or linked to the processing of one or more of the 7295
enquiries mentioned in question 1.

 3. Number of roadworks reported due to fixing potholes in 2017.

We can’t repair potholes without some roadworks. Generally people don’t
report roadworks to the service.
