Desc.: Dear sir/madam, I contact you nearly a month ago about my concerns regarding the amount of traffic and its increased speed travelling down the Forest Road in Colgate. I live in Beedingwood drive
(rh12 4te), and have to ride my horse down this road to the Public bridle way as do many other horse riders, cyclist and even walkers. This is getting increasingly more dangerous as the amount of
traffic is increasing due to people using it as a cut through. The speed is 60mph which unfortunately many drivers exceed, this is extremely dangerous on such a road. I know the residents of the
village are also concerned as drivers rarely slow down to pass through the village itself. What I am asking, is whether there can be more signs warning drivers of horses on the road (I think there is
only currently one and that's some way from the bridle way) , or whether the speed restriction can be reduced, or even some sort of traffic calming solution. I would appreciate it if this issue could
be considered, and a possible solution put forward.

My concern is that this road is getting busier and faster, as more and more people use it as a cut through.
Myself and a number of neighbours who live off this road own horses, and the only way to access the bridle way into st LEONARDS forest is by ridding half a mile down this road. Every time we will
encounter a 'near miss' as people drive past at 60mph, and even some shouting abuse for being on this road. We have no choice and believe me we don't want to be there either, but there is no
choice. My concern is there is very little signage demonstrating that this road is used by horse riders, and that as a country road it's too fast. Over the last few years it's got considerable worse and I
fear for our safety and to be honest that of cyclists too. I guess what I am raising is to whether a speed restriction could be allocated to this road, for a short section ie the village itself it currently
drops to 30mph! And in the very least some additional signs to make drivers more aware. I would appreciate it if you would consider the issues I have raised, and maybe some kind of solution be it
minor could be put in place, before a serious accident happens.
Yours sincerely

Desc.: Dear Sir or Madam,
I write to bring your attention to a section of road which is (in my opinion) very dangerous.
Forest Road, heading out of Horsham towards Colgate becomes 70 MPH after PineTops turning.
Between our entrance and the gate to Roffeyhurst Cottage is a section of the road that drops down hill, takes a right then a left bend and passes Forest Grange
turning. In this place the road narrows. I often hear the sound of car horns because drivers drift accross the centre white line and I think we are at risk of a head on collision.
Also, small children
and although no perceived risk, if there was a serious accident the debris from it could be a huge hazard.
I would like to see the 30MPH limit extended out to Forest Grange and some speed calming as in Colgate or Pease Pottage.
I've noticed one road sign heading out of Horsham near the gate of Seymours which is to alert of the narrowing and the risk of Deer.
there are many Deer in
this area and crossing the road. Sadly, some dont make it.
I would be happy to show a member of team the position of this hazard. Hopefully something could be done?

rooftops if I have to.
Once again dangerous driving on the above mentioned road is becoming increasingly worrying, we live on the bend just down from Woodside equestrian , on the opposite side
, it's a sharp bend and it seems no matter how many signs you put up for people to slow down , they are ignored. On Saturday the 17th April and White transit van, driving on the opposite side of
the road (much too fast ) screeched round the bend leaving his side of the road and crashing through a couple of your bollards and through my fencing, obliterating my chicken enclosure and
dislodging the roof on my summer house. Narrowly avoided killing the driver of an oncoming car who blasted his horn which alerted us. As if that were nt enough he brazenly just drove on his merry
way !!!! Leaving us with the expense of repairing everything he damaged in his wake !!! Thankfully my grandchildren were not in the chicken run collecting eggs otherwise they would have been
killed !!
This is not the first time we have had this sort of thing happen, it is a regular occurrence and I am pleading with you to lower the speed limit on that road. I t is being used as a race track for anyone
in a hurry or wants to put their foot down , the road kill alone is a disgrace and saddens me and I'm sure many of our neighbours. It is only a matter of time before fatalities start happening and then
what ??? Before that happens PLEASE can you do something to make this road safer, lowering the speed limit would be a start.

I am sorry to use this email address, but I was unable to attach multiple documents through your web site. I would appreciate if you could confirm that this has reached the right department.
Forest Road Speed Limit 60 MPH
Forest Road stretched between Roffey and Pease Pottage, with Colgate roughly the mid-point. The speed limit from Roffey to Colgate and Colgate and Pease Pottage is 60 MPH. Within the village
of Colgate it is 30 MPH. (See map with speed limit signs marked)
Nature of the road
Forest Road is a winding and undulating narrow B Road. It has trees on either side and straight stretches are interspersed with sharp bends. On certain bends the road is also very narrow. In
Autumn the fall of leaves make the road particularly slippery (see enclosed video of one dangerous section-“ Forest Road video”)
Increase in Traffic
In the last twenty years the volume of traffic has increased dramatically. This is partly driven by the growth of housing. Roffey has had a new estate, Roffey Park has been developed, Beedingwood
Drive has been built, Forest Grange has been developed and more recently Pease Pottage has had 90 houses added at Fairways and Woodgate has been developed in west Colgate. Also Roffey
Management Institute has dramatically increased its business with day courses, weekend courses weddings and residential courses.
Forest Road is also an alternative road to the A264 and as that road has become busy, so more and more people choose Forest road as an alternative.( At present, I can find no data from the
council to support this traffic increase).
Accidents
There has been an increase in the accidents on Forest Road. The enclosed table (“accidents 5 years”)shows the number of accidents over the last 5 years. In addition the road was blocked for two
hours at the beginning of September because of an accident, which we believe was serious. Other than the A264, Forest Road seems to have significantly more accidents than any of the surroundi

Desc.: The customer would like the site re-assessed for any intervention level growth and to be informed of the outcome. The concern is allegedly low hanging trees and vegetation along Forest Road from
Horsham to Pease Pottage that the customer reports are hitting the horse box that she drives along here.
,
Please note there have been a number of past enquiries about this,
there are probably others. An extensive tree works programme was also carried out in 2014.
Please contact Jim Mellor (Highways Arb
) if any background information is required on previous works.

Desc.: I am not one to complain in writing very often but have done on this subject once before, when it comes to the safety of my family and protection of my property I feel compelled to shout from the
rooftops if I have to.
Once again dangerous driving on the above mentioned road is becoming increasingly worrying, we live on the bend just down from Woodside equestrian , on the opposite side , it's a sharp bend
and it seems no matter how many signs you put up for people to slow down , they are ignored. On Saturday the 17th April and White transit van, driving on the opposite side of the road (much too
fast ) screeched round the bend leaving his side of the road and crashing through a couple of your bollards and through my fencing, obliterating my chicken enclosure and dislodging the roof on my
summer house. Narrowly avoided killing the driver of an oncoming car who blasted his horn which alerted us. As if that were nt enough he brazenly just drove on his merry way !!!! Leaving us with
the expense of repairing everything he damaged in his wake !!!
It is only a matter of time before fatalities start happening and then
what ??? Before that happens PLEASE can you do something to make this road safer, lowering the speed limit would be a start.
. This may sound extreme, but trust me if any of my grand kids gets harmed by one of these idiot drivers I will be more than extreme !!!
I really hope that you can see the importance an

I called your office today and gave a brief outline of my problem to Rachael. She said it would be alright to cc you in on an email to the Highways department and asked
that I write to you explaining in more detail.
I wrote to you a few years ago regarding the overhanging trees and the speed limit along Forest Road. I explained to you that I had written to the Highways asking for the trees to be cut back, as
they were becoming very dangerous and limiting the amount of road accessible. Unfortunately, I wasn't getting anywhere with them and in fact, they told me that I had to write or contact each
separate owner along the road and ask them to clear the overhang, myself. As I explained to them at the time, this would be impossible. Even if I could find out the name of every person, they
certainly wouldn't listen to me. You very kindly wrote to the Highways yourself which was very helpful and a Mr Jim Mellor took up the case.
Mr Mellor managed to get their contractors to work for three and a half days cutting back some of the offending branches, which was an improvement. He then promised to provide a bus, which
they use to reach the taller trees and spend more time clearing the road. Unfortunately, this took a very long time and during the wait Mr Mellor was transferred to another department. He wrote and
told me that he had explained the situation to Mr Mike Norris, who had taken over the position. I wrote to Mr Norris as soon as possible.
Frustratingly, Mr Norris said I had to start again, because of the time lapsed it would now be a new request. I did as was asked and pointed out all the conversations I'd had with Mr Mellor and
explained where we'd got to and that I had been promised this bus. After numerous emails, most being ignored, Mr Norris wrote back stating that the trees were not under the Highways and that I
would have to contact the individu

Desc.: I act on behalf of Royal Mail for post box street furniture works in the BN & RH postcode areas and need to advise that Royal Mail intends to install a post box at the above location.
The reason for installation is to provide additional posting facilities in the area (position as indicated by the attached diagram). Royal Mail will carry out appropriate utility searches and it’s
contractors will request appropriate highway notices.
As you are aware, under the Postal Services Act 2000 Royal Mail is regarded as a utility for the purpose of carrying out works with regard to post box street furniture, however, although Royal Mail
has statutory power to install I would be grateful if you could confirm that you have no objections to the location, or advise accordingly. A site meeting can be arranged if this is deemed appropriate.
Could you also confirm if the land to the left of the brick line is private estate or is it just the road that is private. If the grass area is not private then that is also an option for installation.
I look forward to hearing from you in due course. Thank you.
