Hi R.,
I refer to your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
You asked (queries numbered for ease):
1. How much has the council spent on pothole repairs in the last three
financial years? 2. Please provide details of the amount spent on road
resurfacing in the same period.
3. How much would it cost to bring all the roads in the local authority
area into a state of good repair?
The response to your request is as follows:
1. This is public information held on our Disclosure Log (See under
Highways > Potholes). Direct link -
[1]https://www.monmouthshire.gov.uk/app/upl...
(please note that this link will start a download of the document). The
final figure for FY 23-24 is not yet ready for publication since the end
of the FY, and is exempt under S22 of the FOIA. We expect this information
to be published in July.
2. FY 21/22 £615,986.15; FY 22/23 £1,414,943.10; FY 23/24 £891,325.00
3. Information not held - There was a report produced in 2020/21 for Welsh
Gov't which does include some information on this matter, which would be
the latest information held:
‘3. Investment Needs – In 2019 the total value (gross replacement cost) of
the highway asset was estimated at £2,121m. The total annual depreciation
of the asset has been estimated as £2.9m. This represents the average
annual capital investment required in asset renewal and replacement.
This figure excludes the revenue monies required to fund reactive and
routine repairs and any costs associated with third party claims.’
‘Steady State – The estimated steady state renewals investment requirement
for carriage ways is £3.3m per annum based on 2020/21 information.’
