Please note this only relates to accidents that resulted in an insurance
claim being presented and not to total number of accidents reported
involving a pothole. This also only relates to the date the claims were
brought, not to the accident date which may fall outside the period in
question which is 01/01/2021 – 31/12/2023.

Year Number of claims received

4) What is the amount of money spent by the council on fixing potholes for
the years 2021, 2022 and 2023?

The Council does not separately budget for potholes. However, each year
the Council sets out detailed revenue and capital budgets for Highways and
Transport. The revenue budgets include income and expenditure relating to
the day to day running of the Council.  The capital budgets include income
and expenditure that will yield benefit to the Council over a period of
more than a year (e.g., roads, buildings). The revenue budget allocation
for Highways and Transport (‘Engineering-Highways’) is under ‘Traffic and
Engineering’ within ‘Strategic Planning and Transportation’.

‘Highways Services’ capital program is under ‘Strategic Planning and
Transportation’ within the capital program section of the budget book for
each financial year requested.
