Postgraduate College Preferences
Dear University of Cambridge,
I would like to know the breakdown of postgraduate First and Second preferences for admission to graduate programs, i.e. for each college what percent of the total students indicated it as their first preference, and what percent of total students indicated it as a second preference. Furthermore, for each college, I would like to know what percent of students who indicated it as First or Second preference were admitted to it. This includes First and Second preference, essentially percent of students in a given college who indicated that they would prefer to be allocated there.
I request this so that I may know what my likelihood is to be assigned to a college given my preference, as I would be more inclined to indicate colleges which I prefer highly but am more likely to be admitted to, rather that those which I like but am unlikely to be assigned to.
Yours faithfully,
R. Aron

Dear FOI,
Hi,
I'd like to clarify my request in regards to the third column. I meant to say that, for each college, I would like to know what percent of students who were admitted to that specific college. For example, if Churchill college admitted 100 students, with 25 of the admitted students indicating it as their first choice, and 15 as their second choice, their value would be 40%, as 40% of the students studying there indicated it as a preferred college. This is what I mean by 'acceptance rate' so to speak-it is the number of current students of a college who expressed an interest in being allocated there divided by the number of students who were allocated there.
Yours sincerely,
R. Aron

Dear R Aron,
Revised data is attached as an Excel sheet.
The percentages calculated in columns 'J' and 'L' are the numbers of applicants admitted to their 1st (or 2nd) choice divided by total numbers admitted (column 'G'). We trust, if this is not the percentage you wanted, that you can calculate any alternatives yourself from the raw data.
