Post Office branches in WHSmith stores
Dear Post Office Limited,
I request information explaining whether, and if so why, Horizon discrepancies in Post Office branches located in WHSmith stores were treated differently to Horizon discrepancies where other Postmasters/Mistresses were involved.

Dear Mr Bush,
Following your correspondence with our information rights team, your
question: Whether Horizon discrepancies in Post Office branches in WHSmith
stores were treated differently to Horizon discrepancies where other
Postmasters/Mistresses were involved has been passed to me for reply.
There are no material differences in the way in which discrepancies at
Post Office branches are addressed. The same compliance measures are in
place for WHSmith branches as in other branches. Because of the large
number of branches they run, WHSmith have their own audit and compliance
teams but use Post Office in relation to support and reporting processes
in the same way as an individual Postmaster/ Postmistress.
Discrepancies at Post Office branches can occur for varied reasons and in
many cases, for example certain human errors at the counter, can be
automatically corrected. For any advice or help with discrepancies, all
Post Office branches, including WHSmith’s, can contact our Business
Support Centre so that we can help resolve any issues. Regular statements
are provided from Post Office to WHSmith head office, from which they
identify discrepancies that may require their own investigations.
I am only in a position to provide information on current processes,
rather than historical, but I hope the above is helpful.
Yours sincerely
