Mr K Hurd made this Freedom of Information request to Hedon Town Council

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, Hedon Town Council should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear Hedon Town Council,

How many councillors are involved with resolving the closure of the post office?
Is a councillor trying to have it relocated to their own premises?

Yours faithfully,

Mr K Hurd

Hedon Town Council

Dear Mr Hurd

The Council as a whole is concerned at the closure (temporary we hope) of
the Post Office in Hedon and it will be on the agenda for the next Finance &
General Purposes Committee Meeting (Thursday 28 June) for discussion.

So far as I am aware no Councillor is trying to have the post office
relocated to their own premises.

Dear Mr Hurd

I have taken advice from ERNLLCA (East Riding & North Lincolnshire Local
Council Association) before replying to you. The Council discussed the
closure of the Post Office at a Finance & General Purposes Committee Meeting
held on 28 June 2018. I set out below the Minute detailing the discussion
and action decided upon.

16. To discuss the future of Hedon Post Office
The Chairman updated members on a phone conversation between the
Town Clerk and a member of the Post Office Customer Care Team. The Post
Office had been unable to advertise the vacancy for a post master
until 18 June but was actively seeking a candidate to reopen the facility.
There was a lengthy discussion and members agreed that it was vitally
important to the town that it retained a Post Office facility. It was
likely that it would be at least six months before a permanent facility
could be reopened.

The Post Office was also looking into opening a temporary facility
in the meantime and members felt that the Town Hall may be suitable for this
for one or two days per week; but no official approach had been
made.

It was noted that Hedon Trader’s Association had written to the Post
Master General to emphasise the need for a Post Office in the town and
Graham Stuart MP had also written in support.

Resolved: that Cllr Dennis would look into the possibility of the
Post Office using the Town Hall as a temporary facility

The Town Council is not cognisant of the individual thoughts or actions of
its members outside the formal meetings of the Council.

Further to my e-mail dated 27 July I can confirm that I have discussed this
issue verbally with both Cllr Bryan and Cllr Stockdale.

Cllr Stockdale is registered blind and is unable to e-mail/write in reply to
your question but he has verbally confirmed that he has had no written
correspondence about the Post Office.
Cllr Bryan has been in and out of hospital with a serious medical condition
however I have spoken to him and he has verbally confirmed that he has had
no written correspondence about the Post Office other than being sent a copy
of the Post Office reply to Cllr Dennis (which you already have a copy of
with my e-mail of 27.7).
