Post 19 Transport policy for young adults with an EHCP

We're waiting for Nathan Keelan to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council,

Section 508F of the Education Act 1996 requires local authorities to make transport arrangements they consider “necessary” (or that the Secretary of State directs) to facilitate the attendance of relevant young adults at institutions where the local authority has secured the provision of education for the adult concerned. Relevant young adult means an adult who is under 25 years old for whom an EHC plan is maintained.

Could you please therefore provide the specific transport policy that the council uses for the age range 19 to 25 that determines whether the local authority deems it necessary to provide transport for a young adult to facilitate their attendance at the institution where the local authority has secured the provision of education named in their EHC plan.

Yours faithfully,

Nathan Keelan
