Poorly maintained public car park at Alexandra Hospital, Redditch

The request was partially successful.

Dear Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust,

Public Car Park at Alexandra Hospital Redditch.

1. When was the most recent weeding and sweeping work done?
There are many weeds, plus rubbish especially near the kerbs. In some places there are fairly thick woody stems growing through the tarmac that have not been removed for many months.

2. Who did the most recent work, was it the staff at the hospital or the contractor?

3. Was the quality of the work inspected? If the work was inspected, who looked at it?

4. When will this car park be properly maintained? People pay to use this car park and should therefore expect to see a decent well maintained area not weeds and rubbish.

Yours faithfully,

P. Bladon

FOI, WAHT- Account Owner Kimara Sharpe,

Dear Mr/s Bladon

Freedom of Information

I refer to your email of 15 July requesting information in respect of car
parking at the Alex.

I can confirm in accordance with S.1 (1) of the Freedom of Information Act
2000 (FOIA) that we do hold some information that would be useful in terms
of your request.

I have listed your questions below together with our response.

1. When was the most recent weeding and sweeping work done?  There are
many weeds, plus rubbish especially near the kerbs.  In some places there
are fairly thick woody stems growing through the tarmac that have not been
removed for many months. Spray weed killing was carried out on 21st May
2014. We do not regularly sweep the car park, this is done on an ‘as
required’ basis. We note your comments in relation to the weeds and we
will undertake a visual inspection to ascertain whether we need to
undertake more work.

2. Who did the most recent work, was it the staff at the hospital or the
contractor? The Contractor carried out the most recent work, minimal works
are carried out by a member of the Direct Labour (mostly site wide litter
picking)

3. Was the quality of the work inspected?  If the work was inspected, who
looked at it? No. As a result of this FOI, we are reviewing our policy on
inspecting such work.

4. When will this car park be properly maintained?  People pay to use this
car park and should therefore expect to see a decent well maintained area
not weeds and rubbish. The Car Park is currently being maintained by a
specialist contractor, it is recognised that there is room for improvement
in the quality of maintenance provided and this is being addressed direct
with the contractor in question, the Trust has to balance service levels
with costs to achieve an affordable yet acceptable end result.
