Pooled Graduate Admission Statistics, by Course and College, for All Available Years

We're waiting for AFW to read recent responses and update the status.

Dear University of Oxford,

Please promptly share the following information, per FOI guidelines, for *all* available years of admission to date — i.e. 2022-2023, and every preceding annual application/admission cycle ...

- 1) The gross number of *pooled* graduate applicants admitted by each college
- 2) The taught/research and full-time/part-time breakdown for said pooled students
- 3) All the degrees for which said pooled applicants have been admitted, broken down by college

If this request entails a data recovery process so extensive that it means you will be unable to provide the statistics in a timely fashion, please *only* focus on the following ...

- A) Data pertaining to graduate degrees offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences
- B) College data pertaining only to: Balliol, Jesus, Trinity, and Wadham colleges
- C) Data from 2010-2011 until 2022-2023 only

Yours faithfully,

AFW

Dear FOI Oxford,

Thank you for clarifying that "pooling" does not operate for graduate applicants.

Is it not the case, however, that once successful graduate applicants have been admitted by their respective department, their file is normally passed on to the applicant's college of choice. And if that college rejects said student, they are considered by another college, and so on, until a place for them is found.

Whether or not this system is termed "pooling", it nevertheless necessitates a process whereby certain colleges admit students who *actively did not choose that college* when applying. My FOI request is therefore targeted at these data ...

- 1) The gross number of graduate applicants admitted by each college who did *not* choose that college when applying
- 2) The taught/research and full-time/part-time breakdown for said students
- 3) All the degrees for which said applicants have been admitted, broken down by college

If this request entails a data recovery process so extensive that it means you will be unable to provide the statistics in a timely fashion, please *only* focus on the following ...

- A) Data pertaining to graduate degrees offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences
- B) College data pertaining only to: Balliol, Jesus, Trinity, and Wadham
- C) Data from 2010-2011 until 2022-2023 only

It almost goes without saying, but I am *not* interested in data pertaining to applicants who choose no college when applying, which I presume is analagous to the "open application" system at undergraduate level. In addition, I am only interested in graduate students' *final* college destination, not the intermediary process of reallocation, which I recognise could entail consideration by multiple colleges.

To recap, I am hoping to acquire statistics on what proportion of the graduate intake admitted by each college is comprised of students who *did not* choose the college in question; and then higher resolution data on those applicants' course variables (taught/research; f/t and p/t; degree titles).

Please do let me know if you have any further questions.

Yours faithfully,

AFW
