Polygons for flood warning regions

The request was successful.

Dear Environment Agency,

Would it be feasible to get the underlying data for the polygons for flood warning areas shown on maps such as

http://maps.environment-agency.gov.uk/wi... ?

(I'm not currently really asking for that data, particularly if it's difficult to provide; just scoping out whether it'd be possible. Some information on the format it's currently in might help, however.)

Yours faithfully,
David McKee

Dear Enquiries Unit,

During the recent flooding, I looked at the map on the website, and saw very large numbers of flood alerts in very large regions, which was particularly unilluminating.

I was considering trying to visualise what the actual extent of the flood alerts were, which would require the geographic extent of each of the regions, which are mapped on pages such as http://maps.environment-agency.gov.uk/wi... , and then mapping to whatever data might be attached to these regions - which might well be scrapable, so ultimately less of a priority.

So, in short, I was wondering how possible it'd be to get those map-regions, what formats they might easily be in and enough data to understand which region-on-a-map is linked to a named flood warning area.

I'm wary that this could be a surprisingly large amount of effort for little gain; so I'd totally accept an answer of "This'd be a right pain to do."

Yours sincerely,

Dragon Dave
