Dear Advertising Standards Authority,

Can you tell me have any political adverts been placed on television for the May elections even though it is illegal?

Yours faithfully,

Enquiries, Advertising Standards Authority

Dear Abdul

Thank you for your email.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) is not subject to the Freedom of Information Act 2000, as it is not a body listed by the Act as being a public authority. The ASA is independent from Government and receives no funding from the taxpayer.

We will always try to be as helpful and transparent as we can when answering queries and provide detailed information and responses wherever possible.

We do not, however, hold the information you have requested. The ASA responds to concerns about advertisements once they are in the public domain. We do not monitor the amount or nature of ads (such as political) that are broadcast. Our role is to ensure that the ads that appear on TV stick to the rules and do not contain anything that is likely to be misleading, harmful or offensive.

In this instance I would recommend you contact broadcasters with your query.

Kind regards

Matt Wilson
